[Photo by Will Jones/WSU Communications and Marketing]All BSOM students and faculty are invited to attend the 3rd annual Medical Student Research Symposium on Thursday, April 21, from 5:45-8:00 p.m. in White Hall on the WSU main campus.

The symposium opens at 5:45 p.m., when 29 student research posters will be available for viewing in the White Hall Atrium. It continues at 6:00 p.m. in 101 White Hall  (Gandhi Auditorium) with welcoming remarks and the inaugural Distinguished Scholar Lecture. A poster reception follows at 6:30 p.m. in the Atrium.

The Distinguished Scholar Lecture will be presented by Katie Bullinger, an M.D./Ph.D. candidate who graduates this year from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.  She completed her Ph.D. research in neuroscience in 2009 in the laboratory of Timothy Cope, Ph.D. After graduation, she will begin a one-year transitional residency at Kettering Medical Center followed by a residency in interventional neurology at Emory University. At the first Medical Student Research Symposium in 2009, Bullinger won awards for Best Overall Poster and Best Presentation.

The symposium is organized by the Wright State Medical Student Research Club with support from the BSOM Office of Research Affairs.

Invitation to the Central research Forum – Oct. 26

Please join us Tuesday, Oct. 26, when the Office of Research Affairs presents the 2010 Central Research Forum in the WSU Student Union.  Program highlights include:

2:30-3:30 p.m. (Room E156) Practice-Based Research at SOARnet: This session is held in conjunction with the Medical Student Research Club’s Translational Research Lecture Series.

3:30-4:30 p.m. (Room E156) Research Centers of Excellence: This session features our newest research centers of excellence, the  WSU and PHP Neuroscience Institute and the National Center for Medical Readiness.

4:40 p.m. (Room E156) Data Blitz: Twelve presenters will get 2 minutes each (using just one overhead transparency) to tell the audience why they should take a closer look at the presenter’s research during the poster session.

5:00-7:00 p.m. (Apollo Room) Poster Session and  Reception: We have 62 posters, including 10 by medical students, showcasing the range of biomedical, clinical, and medical education research at WSU. See the list of poster presenters (MS Word).  See more CRF program details.

Wright State’s Medical Student Research Club presented the second annual Medical Student Research Symposium on April 1. The event featured 25 scientific research posters, more than double last year’s number.

The symposium is organized by the Research Club with support from the BSOM Office of Research Affairs. It provides a forum for WSU medical students to share their research with faculty, community physicians, residents and other students. Over 50 faculty and students attended this year’s event.

[Photo by Will Jones, WSU CTL]]All BSOM students and faculty are invited to attend the 2nd Annual Medical Student Research Symposium on Thursday, April 1, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in White Hall on the WSU main campus.

The symposium begins with welcoming remarks and a data blitz in the Gandhi Auditorium (101 White Hall) at 6:00 p.m., followed by a poster reception in the White Hall Atrium at 6:30 p.m.. Download the program (MS Word.):

Research Club Holds Hands-On Poster Workshop on March 4

The workshop will assist WSU medical students who are planning posters for the 2nd annual Medical Student Research Symposium on April 1.. The deadline for submitting poster titles and signing up for the symposium’s Data Blitz is March 1.  Please RSVP to Adam Deardorff (deardorff.2@wright.edu) if you plan to attend the workshop or to submit a poster title.


Call for Posters: 2nd Annual Medical Student Research Symposium Scheduled April 1

Wright State medical students are invited to present posters on their recent research  at the 2nd Annual Medical Student Research Symposium on Thursday, April 1, in the White Hall lobby. Medical students who  have conducted research with WSU faculty or at other institutions during medical school at WSU are eligible to present a poster. To submit a poster, please email Adam Deardorff (deardorff.2@wright.edu) with the poster title and list of authors. The poster submission deadline is March 1, 2010.

The symposium is sponsored by the BSOM Office of Research Affairs and the Research Club. See highlights of last year’s symposium.

The Research Club will host a hands-on poster design workshop led by Patricia Hudes on Thursday March 4, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. She will demonstrate how to design posters using PowerPoint.  If you want to attend, please email Adam Deardorff (deardorff.2@wright.edu).


Research Club Hosts Jan. 19 Workshop On Creating Effective Scientific Posters

[Photo by Will Jones/WSU Center for Teaching and Learning]Patricia Hudes (left), the director of faculty development at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, will discuss the “Do’s and Don’ts of Poster Design: Creating Effective Scientific Research Posters” on Tuesday, January 19, 6:00-7:00 p.m., in 101 White Hall (Gandhi Auditorium). This interactive session is intended to help students who plan to present posters for the 2010 Medical Student Research Symposium later this year (date TBA). Participants are asked to read a 3-page article on “Do’s and Don’ts of Poster Presentation” (PDF download) prior to the session. Also available in advance is a PowerPoint template with the BSOM logo and the appropriate page setup for printing a 56″ X 42″ poster.

Dinner will be provided at the workshop. Please RSVP to Adam Deardorff (deardorff.2@wright.edu) by Friday, January 15, if you plan to attend.


BioOhio Extends Student Poster Deadline

September 8, 2009

bioohio_logoBioOhio invites undergraduate and graduate students in any field of the biosciences to enter the Student Poster Competition at the 2009 BioOhio annual conference on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Embassy Suites Dublin/Columbus. Posters presented recently at other scientific meetings by student lead authors are preferred. Only 20 posters will be accepted, and prizes will be awarded for the most interesting scientific work, the most interesting commercial potential, and the best presentation of information. The deadline for poster submission has been extended to Friday, Sept. 11. Jack Bantle, Ph.D., Wright State’s vice-president for research and graduate studies, will cover the registration fee for any WSU student whose poster is accepted for the BioOhio competition.

BioOhio is a non-profit membership organization designed to build and accelerate bioscience industry, research, and education in Ohio.
